Soft Dough Co.

I didn’t overindulge in chocolate this Easter (except for the mini Easter egg chocolate chip cookies I had– yes, it’s as decadent as it sounds!), but I did have a few slices of the Basque cheesecake from Soft Dough Co., – a dessert shop in Toronto that specializes in Basque cheesecakes and madeleines.

A few days before Easter, my sister told me that she would be bringing a Basque cheesecake over for Easter dessert – and she made sure to let me know that it looked burnt. I was a little concerned about serving a burnt dessert, but I didn’t say anything.

My curiosity got the better of me and I had to find out what Basque cheesecake was, so I went to Soft Dough’s website.

The Basque cheesecake looks like a normal cheesecake, but the top of the cake is slightly toasted, giving it a dark brown colour – hence why my sis said it looked burnt. It also doesn’t have a crust. Not gonna lie, that bummed me out a bit too. I love crust!

What did it taste like?

Good, actually! It was creamy, smooth, not too sweet, and most importantly, it did not taste burnt at all. It just tasted duh-licious! And no, I didn’t miss the crust : )

It lasts a long time too. You can toss it in the freezer for 1 week, or store in the fridge for 4 days.

Believe it or not, I did not inhale the cake in one sitting. We had it for dessert on Sunday, and I still had a small slice 4 days later (it still tasted incredible).

Would I eat it again?

Oh yeah.  It’s a great cheesecake, and you don’t need a huge slice to satisfy your cheesecake yearnings. I’m also interested in trying some of the other flavours – chocolate, espresso, and strawberry compote.
