I’ve wanted to taste the vegan cookies from A Cookie Called Quest for over a year now. Not sure if you know, but I’m not vegan, but I saw Kamar Martin – the man behind the booming cookie company on Breakfast Television and I loved his story.  Okay to be totally honest, it wasn’t JUST his story that sold me. I loved the looks on the hosts’ faces after they took one bite. They looked like they were having a euphoric moment! I wanted to have that look on my face too, so I knew I had to get my hands on those cookies.

Not sure why it took me over a year to finally order the cookies, but a few Mondays ago I went online, perused the drool worthy assortment of cookies, and selected 2 flavours.

I chose Chocolate Mocha because it contains 2 of my fave things – chocolate and coffee. The second cookie I picked was Ghostface – AKA Double Chocolate Amaretto because it boasts to be rich and chocolatey with kick of Amaretto liqueur.

Were they worth the hype?

Chocolate Mocha

As I sunk my teeth into this chocolate chip cookie I was hit with a subtle hint of coffee. THIS is a coffee lover’s dream. It’s like having your favourite hot beverage submerged in your favourite chocolate chip cookie.

I also really appreciated that this cookie is both crispy and chewy, and surprisingly very buttery.  I would never think that this cookie is plant based because it tastes better than any “non-vegan” cookie I’ve tasted in the past.  Kamar, you are a genius!

Ghostface – AKA Double Chocolate Amaretto

First of all, Kamar had me at Double Chocolate. How could anything be bad when it’s double the chocolate?

The Double Chocolate Amaretto is a classic chocolate crinkle cookie with a scattering of powdered sugar on top, spiked with Amaretto.

The first time I tried the cookie, I liked it. I thought it was a yummy chocolatey treat that was elevated with a splash of Amaretto.

But since I ordered a lot of cookies and I didn’t want to devour all at once, I had to freeze most of them. When I took out the Double Chocolate Amaretto this weekend and popped it in the microwave – something happened.

The cookie tasted even better!  It was warm, moist and gooey – everything you want in a cookie. This took the cookie to another level. I highly recommend that you do this if you order this cookie.

Bonus

Check the Rind

Because Kamar is a very thoughtful and awesome businessman, he slipped a cookie into my order.  He gifted me with Check the Rind – a soft and chewy lemon cookie topped with lemon icing.

Although I am a chocolate fanatic (as you can tell by my cookie order), this unassuming lemon cookie unwittingly turned out to be the cookie I enjoyed the MOST.

I literally couldn’t speak after I ate it – it took my breath away. I realize I am speaking about a cookie, but it’s the truth.

It’s a tender cookie with just the right amount of lemony goodness. It’s not too sweet, or tart – it’s literally perfection.  It left me feeling satisfied rather than riddled with guilt from eating a decadent treat.

Hands down, this is my favourite cookie.

So are these cookies worth the hype?

Um …yeah!  I’ve been kicking myself for not ordering them sooner. They are definitely on my must-buy list.
